Tips for Homemade Pizza

You can enjoy making Pizza at home and the process of making it at home is now easier like never before. There are a lot of grocery stores who sell readymade pizza crust which makes making pizza even easier. It’s not important for you to be a good cook to make a pizza; you can go through various articles and read few books. My personal favorite is Bobby Flay Pizza recipe. Bobby Flay Pizza recipe is easy for starters as well and it makes you save a lot of money which you spent on ordering pizza from various restaurants instead you can have more fun my making one of your own and enjoy it with your family and friends.

You can try following tips before you get started-

1. Before making a pizza, it is important that you always preheat your oven before baking your pizza.

2. When baking a pizza, keep this mind that a simple two-topping pizza in a 12 inch diameter pizza pan bakes evenly and thoroughly at about 400 degrees on the center rack in your oven.

3. You need to always place your pan in the center of the oven rack to make sure it bakes properly.

4. To protect yourself from any kind of danger, always use oven mitts or gloves when handling hot pizza pans.

5. Ones you are done with that, you can lay your hot pizza pan on a flat surface for even and easy cutting. After that, lay it on a large wooden board, or an opened large dish towel.

6. To make sure that you are done with your pizza, you can check it by seeing if the cheese is melted, and if it is beginning to become golden brown. The edge of the crust should be medium golden brown, and when you lift the bottom edge of the crust the dough should look evenly browned.

7. When you buy a readymade pizza base, you will notice that it is usually bland dough, so you can spice it up by sprinkling on your desired seasons, you can choose from Italian seasonings, garlic powder, Creole seasonings or sesame seeds. You can infuse your favorite ethnic tastes by sprinkling your favorite spices on the rolled dough.

8. Ones you complete it, brush your pizza baking pan with a little olive oil so the pizza doesn’t stick. The crust will also pick up some of the olive oil flavor.

9. You can also lightly dust your tabletop or a large cutting board with a little flour. This is where you will roll out your dough. Rolling your dough puts the control of the desired pizza thickness in your hands. Roll dough from the center outwards so the dough spreads evenly.

11. After that you can place the rolled dough into your pizza pan and usually the dough should be a little bigger than your pan and you can use a knife to cut the excess or else use your thumbs to curl and roll the extra dough inward to create a thicker crust.

12. You can make use of a toothpick to poke several little holes along the crust. This keeps your pizza crust from bubbling up in one section. The air will pass evenly while baking.

Simple and Healthy Recipe – Should you be buying organic?

Recently, I made a video tour of my pantry.

OK, I know that sounds a little strange. Allow me to explain.

One of the modules in my Solve Your Dinner Dilemma virtual cooking class, covers how to stock a pantry, along with some life-saving pantry recipes. So the pantry video tour was to illustrate an example of a working pantry.

Anyway, while I was filming, I started thinking how I really should use my freezer as an extension of my pantry. And that it would be great to show my students my freezer as well.

On quick inspection, my freezer was looking like it had been banished to Siberia, rather than a wonderful source of last minute meals. So the freezer tour idea was promptly scrapped.

Not long afterwards, I was contacted by Susan Austin, a friend of a fabulous friend who has written a cookbook called Frost Bite: Easy Cooking for Your Freezer. Would I be interested in having a look? Absolutely.

So inspired by Susan’s inventive book, here are 8 ideas to save time using your freezer.

1. keep a stock of frozen vegetables. While fresh tends to be best from a taste perspective (apart from frozen peas), frozen veg can save valuable time. And lets face it, frozen vegetables are better for you than no veg. Chopped and ready to go, things like frozen broccoli, spinach, cauliflower and beans cook in about the same amount of time as fresh, but save valuable minutes in the prep area.

2. make sandwiches for lunches in advance. Susan’s book has a heap of suggestions for making school (or adult) sandwiches in bulk and freezing so in the mornings you just need to pull them out and they’re good to go. Filling suggestions include cooked meats, canned fish, cheese, pesto and more.

3. freeze cooked foods that will defrost in a lunchbox. If you’re bored with sandwiches, it doesn’t mean you can’t also take advantage of the freezer lunch idea. Especially great for dishes that can defrost during the morning and be eaten at room temperature. Lentil salads, fried rice, and meatballs are a few ideas to get you started.

4. make brunch in advance While having people over for brunch can be a wonderful way to catch up, who wants to get up super early to prepare a feast? I love Susan’s brunch chapter with recipes for cheat-day pancakes, corn breads, muffins, pastries and pies.

5. freeze fresh meat & fish prepared ready for the oven. Prepare your raw proteins with marinades, stuffings or herb crusts so they’re ready to bake or BBQ as soon as they’re defrosted. A great tip for stress-free entertaining.

6. freeze leftovers and small portions. I’ve avoided stating the obvious about the whole cook in bulk and freeze for later idea. Leftovers, however, are something that I rarely think to freeze. Perfect for small households who aren’t keen on eating leftovers the next day.

7. freeze cookie dough ready to bake. Next time I make a batch of these cookies, I’m going to be freezing what I don’t need for another day. Can’t wait.

8. freeze cooked desserts and cakes. The thing with baking is you tends to end up with more cake than needed, which can lead to over indulgence. Freezing for later is a brilliant way to avoid temptation and waste.

chickpea burgers with yoghurt sauce cucumber ribbon salad

chickpea burgers with yoghurt sauce serves 2

Inspired by Susan Austin’s chickpea & roasted capsicum patties from ‘Frost Bite: Easy Cooking for Your Freezer’. Susan recommends cooking the chickpea patties and then freezing to reheat direct from frozen either in the oven or a fry pan.

While I LOVE the flavours in these burgers, they are quite fragile, even with the egg to bind them. I’ve found it’s important not to over-process the chickpeas to help avoid your burgers falling apart in the pan. Just pulse until chopped.

The good news is they still taste delicious if they do happen to fall apart.

1 can chickpeas (400g / 14oz), drained 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 egg 1/2 cup roasted red capsicum (bell pepper), diced 6 – 8 tablespoons natural yoghurt

1. Pulse chickpeas and cumin in a food processor for a few seconds or until roughly chopped. You don’t want a smooth puree here.

2. Crack egg into a small bowl and whisk lightly. Add egg and pulse again for a few seconds.

3. Fold capsicum into the chickpeas by hand so it keeps its shape. Season and using your hands, form into 2 burgers. Pop in the fridge for a few minutes.

4. Heat a small fry pan on a medium high heat. Add a little oil and cook burgers for around 3 minutes on each side or until golden. Being careful when turning so they don’t fall apart.

5. Meanwhile, stir yoghurt in a small bowl until smooth and season generously.

6. Serve burgers with yoghurt on top and cucumber salad (recipe below) on the side.

cucumber salad serves 2 as a side

My Irishman is allergic to cucumber, so I rarely use it. But I was looking for something different to a shaved zucchini salad to serve with the chickpea burgers and the cucumbers just jumped out at me.

This salad will stay crunchy in the fridge for a few days but won’t go so well in the freezer. Feel free to add in some fresh coriander (cilantro) or parsley leaves for a bit more greenness.

2 lebanese cucumbers 2 tablespoons lemon juice

1. Peel ribbons from the outside of the cucumbers, stopping when you get to the seeds. Discard seeds and place ribbons in a small bowl.

2. Season with salt and pepper then toss in lemon juice.

Bobby Flay- Chicken Grilling Tips

Grilling chicken is one of the best meals in the world which can be a healthy and tasty meal. So if you are looking for the right answer to cook your chicken perfectly you can look up to some experts to spice up your grilling. Chicken lovers know that good barbeque is much more than just spanking some meat on a grill. For preparing the grill and using right kind of methods to cook you can refer to grilling guru like Bobby Flay and there are many others to look up to which will help you to start cooking like a pro. You can also choose to read from various books of Bobby Flay where you can easily find various Bobby Flay Grilling Chicken techniques and recipes. Following are the tips that you can use for grilling chicken.

1. According to Bobby Flay grilling chicken method, wood chips should be used in your grill in addition to charcoal or gas. You can sprinkle them at the top coals or place them within a small smoker box in a gas or electric grill, and when they will create a smoke it will present a distinctive aroma and appealing taste to all of your grilled meats.

2. No matter what you use, whether it’s a charcoal, gas or electric grill wood chips will always add an authentic barbecue flavor. There are smoker boxes available that you can place in your gas or charcoal grill which will help you to attain that wood smoke flavor. However, you should always read the instructions before you try anything like this.

3. When you use wood chips, make sure they don’t end up burning too much because too much smoke will spoil your food with an unpleasant taste. According to Bobby Flay Grilling Chicken advice, you should always soak your woodchips before you use them for around 15 minutes and then make them dry for another few minutes. So make sure your wood chips should be moist and not waterlogged.

4. In cases where you are using a smoker in your grill, it is not important to soak woodchips before using them. However, if you do it will help to burn them a little longer. However, if you’re cooking a steak, you probably
don’t want a long, slow grilling.

Using wood chips will certainly bring a new taste in your food and they are available in large range of varieties that cater to all tastes. When you do to buy these, you can take advice from your local vendor who will be able to give an opinion on pairing a wood chip with a particular meat. In cases where you find that your meat is lighter, you should go for a milder wood chip for the flavor. If you choose to try heavier flavors with lighter meals, using a few wood chips instead of a lot can do wonders to your flavor. To add more flavors you can try fruitwoods that includes apple, cherry, peach and plum, poultry and pork to add an interesting taste to grilled vegetables.

Simple Recipes – 7 Deadly No Bake Desserts + Toblerone Ice Cream Cake

I’ve always loved having people over for dinner.

And now I live in the country, it’s even more exciting because visitors tend to be coming from further away and staying overnight. Or even for the weekend!

This weekend we were very lucky to have a crew of Irish (and 1 South African!) over for a weekend of snowboarding, skiing, eating & drinking.

So when I was planning what to cook, I made sure I wasn’t going to be slaving away in the kitchen the whole time.

My first port of call for make ahead desserts are usually things that can be quickly pulled together and then left in the fridge or freezer for either hours or days before serving.

So today I thought I’d share my favourite Stonesoup no bake desserts for next time you’re looking for something quick to prepare ahead.

7 deadly no bake desserts 1. creamy lemon ice cream
My first really successful ice cream made without an ice cream machine. So good it inspired me to get rid of my bulky ice cream maker. If you’re interested in learning how you can make really lovely ice cream without a machine at the Stonesoup Virtual Cookery School is just the thing.

2. lemon posset
With just three ingredients: cream, sugar and lemon juice, there’s something magical in the way they come together to form an almost-panna cotta like dessert. The first time I made it I was convinced that it wouldn’t set without something else like gelatine. Happily, I was wrong.

3. little baileys cheese cakes
While I love a baked cheesecake more than most people, these little cheesecakes made with ricotta and cream cheese are so much easier to make. They hold their own in the deliciousness department too.

4. fresh dates with blue cheese
These only take seconds to prepare, so it’s up to you whether you make them in advance or as needed. The other alternative is to plonk the dates and a wheel of cheese in the middle of the table and let everyone help themselves.

5. super simple chocolate mousse
Melt chocolate. Whip cream and sweeten it a little. Mix it all together and spoon into pretty glasses. What could be easier?

6. chocolate tim tam hedgehog
You’ve got to love a no-bake cake, especially one that’s made from the best chocolate biscuits in the world!

7. toblerone ice cream cake [recipe below]
This recipe is similar to an Italian semi-freddo. I’ve often been disappointed by icy semi-freddos though, so didn’t want to taint this luscious dessert with that name. Applying the techniques I invented for my Luscious Machine-Free Ice Cream class (, this cake lives up to the ‘cream’ part of the name. I guarantee everyone will love this super creamy slice of ice cream heaven.

toblerone ice cream cake
takes 15 mins + freezing
serves 8-10

While toblerone is absolutely delicious in this cake, don’t feel constrained to one type of chocolate. Pretty much all chocolate works well here, as would nougat, honey roasted nuts, cookie dough or your favourite chocolate biscuit or cookie.

I’ve used a loaf pan approximately 30cm x 10cm (11in x 4in). You’re looking for something that will hold at least 6 cups. If you’re using a round pan, about 20cm (8in) diameter would be about the same size.

Feel free to halve or quarter the recipe. It would be lovely in little individual cups.

3 eggs, separated
300g (10oz) icing (powdered) sugar
2 cups whipping cream
200g (7oz) toblerone, chopped + extra to serve

1. Line a loaf pan or other container with baking paper or foil.

2. Whisk egg whites with a pinch of salt until you have firm peaks. Add about 1/2 the icing sugar and whisk until the whites are glossy.

3. Mix yolks with a spoon in a large bowl and transfer the foamy whites to the bowl.

4. Place cream and remaining sugar in the bowl you used to whisk the whites and whisk until the cream forms soft peaks.

5. Add the cream and toblerone to the whites and yolks and gently fold everything until just combined.

6. Transfer gently to your lined container. Freeze for at least 8 hours.

Tidying Up After a Summer Barbecue

Now that the mercury is topping out above 90-degrees Fahrenheit, everyone is enjoying the seasonal delights of summer barbecues. But like any get-together, barbecues are a homeowner’s best friend and a maids nightmare. Hamburgers and hotdogs are topped with colorful condiments like ketchup and mustard that can smear all over furniture. Popsicles and frozen treats melt and leave trails of sticky liquid all over the floors. And guests traipse pool water, grass and all other sorts of outdoor debris throughout your house.

If your house cleaning service doesn’t come for a few days after your outdoor fiesta, follow these tips to clean it up in a cinch. First, think proactively before the party even starts. Place mats at the entrances guests will use, which will trap a large amount of dirt and debris before it enters your home. You can also set up tents and umbrellas so that guests can eat outside no matter what the weather may have in store. Place drinks and condiments outside to prevent indoor spills, and use disposable plastic tablecloths to catch any drips.

After the party, begin with the floors and work your way up. Clean a small area at a time, and tell your family and any visitors if a floor is wet. Since you’ll be looking for spots and drips, rather than an overall cleaning, it’s a good idea to use an all-purpose cleaner and a rag rather than a mop to wipe up after a party. During the summer months in New Jersey, condensation can accumulate on cold hardwood floors and make them extremely slippery. Once you’ve finished cleaning, wipe the floors with a dry towel to remove any last bits of liquid.

Next, tackle doors and doorknobs. Guests (especially young ones) are likely to transfer sticky residue to handles, and it can go unnoticed for several days, attracting insects and pests. You may also need to wipe cabinetry in the same manner, particularly those located in the kitchen or bathroom. Clean the rest of these areas as you normally would; the key is in paying attention to spots that partygoers might touch or contact.

To clean up outdoors, remove any delicate or valuable items from the patio or deck. Once secure, spray the entire outdoor area with a garden hose. Be sure to aim the water away from the house. This will help dissolve any food or sugary spills and prevent pests from tracking into your home. If necessary, use an eco-friendly outdoor solvent to clean troublesome areas. For glass or plastic patio furniture, you can also use an all-purpose cleaner and rags to remove glass rings or food residue.

Though they’re a beast to prepare for, barbecues are a lot of fun during the warm summer months. But don’t let the clean-up scare you; think like your maids whom you hire for house cleaning service, and before you know it, the entire house will be back to its normal spotless self. So, fire up the grill and sip a summery cocktail; it’s bound to be a great time!

New Vitamin C and Citrus Juices

Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is one of the most vital vitamins found in citrus juices, including juice. First Significant. The body only soaks up 5% of vitamins from tablets or pills the rest is sent down the toilet. Discover how you can absorb 98%. Glance at the bottom of this page.

Testing for vitamin C levels in different forms of orange is also a favorite science project for many scholars. Thanks to the limited available references on vitamin C levels in citrus juices and how it degrades over time , this web site will try to provide some info on the topic to help students find additional references for their science projects.

Vitamin C. Regularly projects find that orange juices made of frozen concentrated orange ( FCOJ ) have the highest vitamin C levels in comparison to freshly squeezed or not-from-concentrate ( NFC ) juices. This is because of the fact that vitamin C degrades over time in fresh and NFC, but does not degrade as much in FCOJ due to it being frozen until reconstitution. If you’re comparing a NFC product which has been stored for roughly three weeks vs a newly reconstituted FCOJ, the FCOJ would surely have a higher vitamin C concentration.

Also one more thing to consider is if the FCOJ is reconstituted to the same strength as fresh or NFC. If one doesn’t add enough water, then the vitamin C ( and other compounds ) would be more concentrated. Another thing to be considered is that the vitamin C content changes thru the crop season and orange variety also plays a part. Since most FCOJ is blended to a larger extent than some NFCs, it is wholly possible that the NFC is produced from a variety / season which has lower vitamin C content.

According to Nagy and Smoot, temperature and storage time affects the percent of vitamin C content of orange fruits and orange juice. Alternative types of oranges also have different levels of vitamin C. The mid-season variety, Pineapple Orange had the highest levels, followed by the key early-season variety, Hamlin Orange. The late-season Valencia Orange had the lowest vitamin C content. In addition, it was discovered that the longer the Valencia Orange fruit stayed on the tree, the lower the vitamin C level. ( Additional details on these orange kinds can be found from links in

The story of Florida Juice – from the Grove to Your Glass. ) Nagy and Smoot also found that in orange juice containers, vitamin C loss was due to oxidation by a residual air layer surrounded within the container during processing. The loss was faster in the first two weeks and was more clear at higher storage temperatures. orange must be kept cool to prevent vitamin C degradation as it is sped up at high storage temperatures. .

Tips for Baking Homemade Birthday Cakes for your Child

Nowadays, it is possible to have birthday cakes delivered right at your doorstep without major hassle. Nonetheless, there is always a sense of satisfaction from baking cake for your child for their birthday. The event comes only once in a year and you can make it more special by heading to the kitchen armed with your recipe book. The main benefit of baking your own cake is that you can control the ingredients that are used in making the cake. This makes it possible to produce a healthy cake that caters for any allergies that your kid or his/her friends might have.
Below are some tips to guide you in the quest to bake the best cake possible for your kid’s birthday:
1. Kids are more interested in the colors and amount of candy present in the cake. You must not worry so much about the design of the cake since the kids won’t be either.

2. You can either go for a specific design or choose a generic one for the cake. A specific design such as a kids favorite cartoon character can be quite a challenge to recreate. Generic designs such as trains, animal shapes or balls are much easier to produce. It is simpler to cut out the shape than to actually create it from scratch. This is why it is advisable to go for uncomplicated designs and then use the icing to come up with the details.

6. It is also advisable to use non-staining ingredients on the icing of the cake. Avoid using very bright and sticky syrup on the icing. They may stain kids clothing and make your friends and neighbors scowl at you for sometime.
7. If you are completely overwhelmed with the decorating aspect, simply order online directly purchase cake decorations. Practice the icing bit on a plate before attempting on the cake itself. You will be amazed at how easy it can be to produce shapes.

However, kids mostly enjoy eating the cake so long as it tastes as good as it looks. Use the tips outlined above to make the best birthday cakes for your kid’s parties.

Why Diet is the Best Yeast Infection Remedy

Millions of people are plagued by yeast infections. I had one visitor to my website tell me that she used to get one just about twice a month!

She said that she was miserable and it had really taken a toll on her and her marriage. She went to the doctor and began a month long course of Diflucan, but after the treatment the yeast infections returned. It wasn’t until she went on a Candida diet that she finally found the remedy she was looking for.

Some people think that if it’s that easy, then why don’t all yeast infection sufferers go on a Candida diet? Well, there are several reasons for this.
1.Lack of Education: Most people don’t know that this yeast infection remedy is an option, mainly because the medical profession has embraced this treatment. They would rather dispense prescription medication and keep the business coming.
2.A Candida diet isn’t easy: In this day and it is extremely hard for people to give up sugar. It is in everything and people are so addicted to the sweet stuff, which is why there is such a yeast infection epidemic in the first place. Giving up sugar is one the most important elements of a Candida diet and many would rather suffer than give up this addiction.
3.Time: People are busy and don’t have time to plan Candida safe meals, research recipes, and research which supplements to take. Luckily there are several great Candida diet programs available that do all the work for the sufferer.

It certainly is someone’s choice whether they want to spend the rest of their life using medication as a temporary yeast infection remedy or find lasting relief through changing their diet. However, it’s important to understand what all the treatment options are and make an informed decision from there.

I believe a Candida diet is the best yeast infection remedy because it takes care of the root problem which is too many yeast cells throughout the body. It deprives them of their food source, strengthens the immune system, and promotes all over better health. It teaches dieters how to eat whole natural foods and cut out all the processed garbage that is so prevalent in the western diet. Those also overweight report weight loss as a result of the Candida diet. The lady I mentioned at the beginning of the article lost 15 pounds in just 60 days in addition to getting rid of the yeast infections.

If you happen to be one of the many who suffer with chronic infections then I think you should really consider a nutritious Candida diet as a yeast infection remedy if you want lasting relief and greater health for your body.
